Sunset hike to castles Schauenburg and meteor watching at Sulzchopf
Another opportunity for an extra special nighttime castle hike this Sunday evening-- this weekend is the peak of the Perseids meteor shower and we appear to have a clear night on the route to a new/old pair of castles.
We'll leave from SBB at 19.45 sharp to catch the S-bahn at platform 1, direction Laufenburg, for an 8 min train ride to Pratteln. From there we hike south to castles neu- and alt- Schauenburg as the sun sets. From there it's a short hike to Sulzchopf, where we'll picnic and watch for shooting stars. If by some miracle the BBQ ban is lifted by then, I'll consider hauling a bag of coal like last time ;)
From Sulzchopf it's a short hike to Muttenz where you can catch the #14 tram back to Basel. Since this is a night hike, please bring a flashlight/torch. The path back will be dark and the night is moonless. Also bring a blanket or foldable chair to sit on.
The route to Pratteln is two zones; the route back is one zone, so plan tickets appropriately. The easiest is a day pass for 6.90 CHF with halbtax. Of course, if you have an U-Abo or G-Abo no ticket purchase needed.
Let's catch some shooting stars Sunday night!
