Textile printing workshop
09:00 - 15:00
Make unique tote bags, t-shirts and other products with simple hand printing techniques.
First you will learn basics of different textile printing techniques and try them out: printing with stamps, stencils and also using a screen. Then you will learn how to use computer for designing: how to find pictures that work for textile printing, how to make simple text or shapes and how to simplify photographs for textile printing. You can bring your own laptop with you (we also have few laptops to borrow). We are using a free image editing service called Sumopaint (https://www.sumopaint.com). It works in the browser, so you don’t need to download anything. At the end you will have time to print some beautiful and unique products for yourself or as a gift.
Some fabric pieces for practising and one plain t-shirt or a tote bag are included in the course price and on top of that you might also have time to print something else: bring with you fabric or products from natural fibres (cotton tote bag, jeans, pillow case, hoodie…) you would like decorate with your unique designs! We have a small selection of organic plain cotton fabrics, so you can also purchase materials from us.
No previous experience in printing or image editing required – all levels, including beginners, are welcome!
The course is led by Helka Mäki, qualified textile handicrafts and computer skills teacher from Finland. She teaches in English, but can also guide in Finnish and limited German.
This course runs from 10.00 – 16.00, with a one hour lunch break in the middle. Bring your own lunch (a refrigerator and microwave are available). Alternatively, there is a bakery and a Coop in the neighbourhood where you can buy lunch.
Cost: CHF 115 for one day workshop, including fabric pieces for practising, a plain t-shirt (white or gray) or a tote bag, inks, plastic sheets and other equipment.
There are a limited number of 8 spots for this course, so sign up in advance to guarantee a spot.
