What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga is a slower-paced, more meditative version of yoga. In Yin Yoga the poses are held for a longer period of time (up to several minutes) to target the connective tissues (such as the ligaments, joints, bones and the deep fascia networks of the body) rather than focusing on the muscles. The poses are held with the muscles fully relaxed, allowing time and gravity to deepen the stretch and target the fascia. The time spent holding these asanas is similar to meditation.
Energetically, Yin Yoga improves the energy flow, enhancing the flow of chi in the organs. To be healthy, we need healthy organs as well as healthy muscles. Yin Yoga improves the flow of chi that, according to Chinese medicine, runs through the meridian pathways in the connective tissues of the body. Improved flow of chi can improve organ health, immunity, and emotional well-being.
Yin Yoga creates more space in body and mind.
