Red Bull Cliff Diving Sisikon, Switzerland

Red Bull TV LIVE: 3:30 PM local time
A return to the beautiful Lake Uri for the first time in 8 years
Cheese, chocolate and cliff diving – after 2009 and 2010 Sisikon is back on the World Series calendar. Historically, the return to Lake Uri marks a rather significant stop of the 2018 World Series: Switzerland plays a major role in the history of the sport as Red Bull Cliff Diving as such was born in Brontallo (Ticino) in July 1997 with the very first stand-alone event. Also, the scenic venue surrounded by glaciers hosts a stop of the Women's World Series for the first time.
From a more national point of view the spot has already once been the setting for a historic jump. Wilhelm Tell was the protagonist back then and one tale from the collection of tall stories that make up his life reveals how he escaped captivity by leaping from a boat up to a cliff ledge high above the shores of Lake Lucerne. Nowadays a chapel – Tell's Chapel – reminds of the legendary heroic deed.
On August 5 the world's best cliff divers will add their own acrobatic feats to those of the great Swiss folk hero. Furthermore, right across the lake lies the Rütli meadow, the historic cradle of Switzerland where the country was founded in 1291.
The scenery in the tiny, picturesque village of Sisikon is incredible with high cliffs and a beautiful lake surrounded by high mountains. Just 382 inhabitants live here permanently; a number only exceeded when a flotilla of hundreds of small rubber boats, surfboards and home-made rafts come to watch 22 athletic bodies plunging into the fresh water at speeds up to 85km/h.
