SEPTEMBER 11 - 16 - THE JURA, FRANCE
12:20 - 14:45
Backabush is heading back to one of our favourite hiking regions of France - the Jura mountains!
This wonderfully unspoilt province is blessed with dark and mysterious forests that cling to the steep slopes of the mountains. Crystal clear streams cascade down spectacular waterfalls to join the rivers and lakes of the valley.
We will hike through deep limestone gorges which hide natural caves as well as medieval villages, abbeys and castles. Baume-Les-Messieurs, with its amazing setting, features on the list of The Most Beautiful Villages of France.
Maybe for the gourmets amongst us we should mention the delicious cheeses like comté, morbier and tomme which are still made the traditional way in local fromageries. And, of course a good cheese should be enjoyed with a fine wine like vin jaune straight from the vineyards around Château-Chalon which cover many sun facing slopes.
Naturally the hiking is absolutely superb and the area is dotted with lakes for swimming.
There is so much we could tell you about this lovely region but if you want to experience it all please join us on this holiday! :D
